The City of Longmont is located in both Weld and Boulder counties in Colorado. The city is a home rule municipality and lies to the northwest of Denver’s state capital, at 33 miles.

According to the 2020 United States Census, Longmont is the 14th most populous city in Colorado, with a population of 98,711. Longmont acquired its name from Long’s Peak, a prominent mountain that can be seen from the city.

Longmont owes its beginnings to a group from what would later be known as Chicago who came and sold their membership to the town and purchased land with the proceeds on which the town hall would be constructed. Longmont was the first planned community in the county of Boulder. The city began to prosper when the Colorado Central Railroad line arrived the north of Boulder in 1877, bringing an Agricultural boom.

Over time, the agricultural sector in Longmont decreased in size, paving the way for technology and manufacturing industries to be set up. In 1960 the Denver Air Route Traffic Control Center was built by the federal government in Longmont; a manufacturing and development campus was constructed later by IBM company.
